Title: Rear quarter panel rust weld and paint question?
Post by: Beauoffroad on September 26, 2008, 12:02:17 PM
I am replacing some rusted rear panels on the 88 Sammy.  If I use the MIG welder with flux core wire to weld will the acid from the flux care be harmful to application of primer and paint for the panel?  Can the flux acid be washed away or neutralized for primer adhesion?   I was wondering if I need to spend the money for a gas bottle setup or get away with the fast and dirty "Farmer" repair weld of flux core wire welding.  This is going to be an offload vehicle and not a show car?  Anyone have any experience with flux core MIG on light gage sheet metal and subsequent panel painting?
Thanks
Carl
