Title: Samurai power steering
Post by: davidgt97 on September 27, 2008, 11:24:11 AM
I have an 87 Sammy w/ Jeep J10 axles, 5.13's, 33X12.50 Boggers, 1.6 8v, 6.5:1 transfer, and virtually no steering.  It is very hard to steer and the stock steering doesn't allow for full turn of the wheels.  I am headed to the junk yard this week to get some power steering parts.  My first instinct is to get sidekick parts since I have the 1.6 the bracket will bolt right on and I've been told I only need to drill 1 hole in the frame to mount the steering box.  I have however heard that this doesn't work very well.  Some have said to get a toyota pump.  So here it is: What pump, what steer box, cooler?  Please keep in mind I am broke so I am just buying junkyard parts, no expensive adapter kits.  If the sidekick stuff will work ok that is what I'd rather do.  I do have a little spare steel and a welder so I can fab a little if needed.

I used a nissan box, worked out great,  you could use the tracker pump

The Sidekick setup will not bolt right on unless you use a kit to relocate the pump from Trailtough or Calmini.
