Title: 1999 GV Keyless Entry
Post by: fullsink18 on October 09, 2008, 10:18:09 AM
Just got a 1999 GV to a DD and I found it has a keyless entry system and I found one of the key fobs in the glove box.  Got some instructions programed the fob.  The remote or system does not seem to work very well.  I have to hold the fob next to the under dash box for it to work.  So I figured bad battery in the fob replaced it and no better.  I seen a black wire coming out of the box and figured that is the antenna (kind of short), not sure if that is how they all came or what.

Any ideas on what to do?  New key fob?

Thanks

It COULD be the fob, but they don't have a very long range capability to begin with. I can get 2-3 car lengths.

New and used fobs are all over e-bay, and luckily ours IS programmable unlike the years starting right after.

The system is weak.  I've gone through a few factory remotes in my 1999 GV, and use an aftermarket one now (it isn't much better).  All require you to be within a few feet of the car.  I think it's a combination of the remotes being weak, and the receiver in the car being weak as well.  I usually have to hit the button several times at different angles and positions before the doors unlock.  What's the point of having the remote?  I'm sure the newer remotes (2003+) are good.  Our 2005 Suzuki Aerio has incredible remotes.  I bet they work from 100 feet away or more.  Good luck.
