Im thinking about trading up and MPG is the deciding factor.
What is everyone recording?
-
Not exactly comparable, but I'm pulling 20mpg (varies between just over 20.0 to just shy of 21) driving conservatively on 10% ethanol blend (all The Man lets you get around here...).
-
my mileage varies dramatically on driving conditions such as winds and hilly terrain, also depends on how patient i am feeling.. last time i checked it over 2tanks with about 10% city and the rest highway driving i was going through what averaged out to roughly 12 liters per 100km, that's driving 110-120km\h on the highway with no headwinds. 31's and 4.62 gearing.

3.17 gallons into 62.14 miles = 19.6 mpg
Id like to see at least 22 in a GV
as Ive only been averaging 22-23 mpg in my 96 (I live up a hill)
-
well if you plan on doing something similar to your current setup i'm sure you'll get that mileage, i run 31inch swampers and drive 70mph on the highway with stock gearing. i guy i wheel with has a 4dr with 5.12's and 31's and is getting no less than 500km per tank every tank. if i baby it i notice improved mileage.

that would be good. i dont plan on bigger tires but i do go 70mph.
and if a good deal on bumpers/rims presents itself i might have a hard time saying no.

The GV is heavier than what you've got now, and will have the V6. Better make sure you get one with a 5-speed, I guess.

ive had two manuals and its taught me that if i want anyone else to drive it, it must be an auto :P
-
Don't let anyone else drive it then!! I taught my wife to drive a stick when we were first married. Zoom forward 30+ years and now both our rug rats prefer and now own and drive sticks over auto trannies in their SUVs. Somehow...I think it increases the eye-hand coordination and makes you better able to walk and chew gum at the same time!!
I have to stick with my earlier claim of getting 25MPG on my trucks with the 2.0 liter engine and 5spd tranny set-up running 30" radials. I once actually achieved 28MPG, but i don't drive that slow all the time.

I normally dont. But sometimes training gets intense and Id rather have the option of not driving when Im sore.

I just completed a 900km round trip to the nearest Hospital so my wife could get her wrist x-rayed and plastered.
On they way there I got 12.0 L/100Km (19.6mpg) averaging about 110km/h with a slight headwind for the first 200km.
On the way back I got 11.1L/100km (21.2mpg) averaging 95km/h (night time with lots of kangaroos, cattle and camels around).
I was running 95 octane fuel and put a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank before I left, it will be interesting to see if that improves economy at all.
Running the low-aromatic 91 octane 'Opal' unleaded we have here, I get at least 1L/100km worse economy.
-
thanks for the conversions
19.6 and 21.2 isnt too bad
although I always use the low octane
(something to think about)

Just another thought... with my manual transmissions I regularly "short shift" most of the time between gears versus running out the RPMs on acceleration in each gear. I normally try to shift at 2000 RPMs and try not to "lug" the engine below 1500 RPMs.
With auto trans the computers pretty much control the shift RPM based on engine load and throttle depression, of course. With autos you can punch the "power" button" for longer shifts and you can take fifth away away with another button, but for normal driving, I'm thinking the biggest MPG/MPL difference is driver style. I admit I don't drive as aggressively as I used to when I had somewhere to be and left myself little time to get there, or got stuck in some damned traffic jam on the interstate system somewhere. Now a days it's more of "no place to go and all day to get there".

Pretty much the same with me, and, over 11,000 miles, I have averaged 24.75 (UK Gallons), 20.8 (US Gallons). '98 2.5l V6 now at 47,000 miles.

I recently moved cross country and my auto 2.0L averaged 330 miles per tank on the highway with 29's, stock gearing, 800lb load, and that was riding 70-80mph (varying mph due to knodding off! :sleepy: )
Now I've noticed about 300 miles per tank stickly city driving.. the next project of my is a major tune up. Hopefully that will help out a little.

whats the mpg?
(or the tank capacity?)
-
whats weird is that i keep looking at car ads and a lot of people are saying 22-25mpg
(with a V6 auto)
just doesnt seem right to me
-
if mine was for sale it would get 25mpg for sure..... >:D people say lots of silly things when they say what they're told, i talk to people who thing they truly get what the car ads tell them they get for mgp, until we do some quick calculating and then they aren't so happy, reality sucks!

yeah, i know the drill (with private seller ads)
i do know its possible though
as ive seen a 2nd gen Rav with a V6 get almost 25mpg

whats the mpg?

15 gallon

15 gallon
thats not bad
(22mpg)

anybuddy else?

I used my gps to track mileage for the last 2 tanks, I got 21.6 and 21.8 with flat country road being most of the miles. I've been having a light foot lately, that helps! I have an 01 4 door 4x4 auto on 235's, and my tank will hold 17 gal when empty, I ran it dry just yesterday(sputtering as pulling into the station) 16.89 gal is what it took.
-
Took atrip to Nashville, TN last week (300+ miles each way) droving the interstate mostly at 65MPH and averaged right at 24MPG.
-
i was getting around 23 mpg in town my GV with 225/75/16 mt's, not quite sure what it gets now (odometer isn't accurate) with my 245/75/16's, but I'm guessing it's at least 22.. it's a 5 speed and it has a drop in K&N with a modified airbox. It is also only running the two cats right off the manifolds and has all custom exhaust after the 'y'.. pretty sure the exhaust and intake stuff is helping me get such good mileage. I've found that i get a little better mileage when I run it a little harder, that engine seems to like to run at it's upper mid rpm's inbetween shifts, guessing it's because that's where the powerband seems to start to hit... I've tried driving a few different ways to get good mileage and when I didn't care and drove it in a way that was more fun for pretty much a whole tank, I did a little better. I also coast down hills when I can and wherever else it works out (not when it's icy out of course).
-
I've had my '98 V6 manual for over 3 years now, and the mileage is very consistent:
Summer 21 to 22 (miles/US gallon)
Winter 19 to 20.
Unless it's a steep hill or heavy load, I normally operate between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.
-
Mine runs as low as 17 mpg if it's windy on the interstate trying to go 80 mph. Usually if it's real windy here I'm in 4th gear turning over 4000 rpm's. Usually I get right at 20 mpg going 80 mph to work. I do better 4 wheelin and drivin dirt roads I see 24-25 mpg. I don't run mine easy.
-
Just took a 400 (x2) mile roadtrip. Mostly into a strong headwind both ways, maybe 60-degrees from head-on, and averaging 75-80MPH.... 14-16 mpg. Ouch. But, gas is CHEAP, so it didn't really sting much, and the truck ran like a top. Now that I'm back to normal city/highway driving, I'm back to 20. These SWB trucks are none too slippery.
-
is everyone still seeing about 20mpg?
-
ya, about 20mpg here with a 2.7v6 xl-7, auto, but i do know that on our gv with 32's and an outo, our mpg went right into the crapper hahaha
-
0 mpg! Beat that~!
Of course, it's been off the road since 2003. ;)

What did you do for gearing? Got a link to your build?

this was about 41/2 years ago now, so i didnt have any options for gearing, i did have a thread on here, i think its still around, maybe not the pics tho.

I bought a '99 Chevy Tracker and have driven it about 850 miles. It has gotten 24.5 mpg. This is a combination small town driving and highways. It's a two liter, five speed, 205x75x15 BFG Long Trail T/A's.
-
to throw my .02 in here.
Gv with some mods and 29" BFG
full tank 60 liters
-40f temps i got 400
-15f temps i got 450
0f temps i get about 475km per 60liters

just google something like:
400 km in miles
-
Google does all kinds of conversions:
http://www.google.com/help/calculator.html (http://www.google.com/help/calculator.html)
I've found using question marks work well as variables. Something like: 400 km = ? miles
-
475 km per 60 liters
thats 295 miles per 15.8 gallons
18.7 mpg
thats alright ice pose

He didn't clarify whether or not he accounts for the larger tire diameter in his km totals. Mine 29s come out to about +7.5%, so 279 miles indicated would actually be 300, or 18.7 mpg would actually be 20.1.. I suspect, with the numbers he's talking, he's skipping that step.
I'm running 29s too, and I'm getting 20mpg with my SWB, which is more aerodynamically dirty than the LWB.
-
Sorry guys my speedo is off by 6-7km per hour and i added it in the total.
I just got 470km on this tank . I dunno i wish the truck had a bit bigger motor would probly help a bit. When i put the 2.7 i will let you guys know if i see a gain or loss in MPG
-
18.5
must... get... better
-
We just bought a 2001 4 door GV with the 2.7 and 5 speed manual. We have put a lot of miles on it already and about 4 tanks of gas. We have gotten 23 to 25 mpg so far. We are really pleased with this vehicle.

2.7? In a GV?
Nice mileage, though. I've never seen 23 with my combo.

Well, right now in the winter in Jersey I'm getting between 24 and 25, with a 2.0 5 speed 215 cooper discover at tires. It's garaged at night, don't run the heater in the am to get the motor to warm up in 5 minutes, then I wilil run the heater or defroster. Shift pretty much at 3000 rpm, 3500 going up a hill, on downhills I coast in 5th as much as possible. It's all back roads with 40 to 50 mph speed limits.
My wifes XL-7 bone stock has been geting 19 to 20.
In the spring and summer both go up a little. I've gotten 28 about 5 years ago when I was commuting farther. Right now it's only 12 miles each way. Thats the problem with mpg, the first quarter of each trip th emotor is cold and warming up and running richer.
HAVE FUN ;D Dave
