Title: Does anyone here have a Tracker with a Locker??
Post by: OHIO_ZUKI on October 16, 2008, 05:36:59 PM
Not a Sammy, but a TRACKER! The link that I was provided is for a Sammy Locker install. I noticed right away that there are no DRIFT PINS in the Sammy rear differential. So...does this mean that I bought the wrong locker? If you have a TRACKER with a locker in it, what /or did your locker come with either new drift pins, or did the new Cylinder/sleeve things have holes in them for the drift pins??? If you know the answer, for-the-love-of-GOD, please call me. I bought a 1510 Lock Right. It has no drift pin holes, or new drift pins. Does this mean I DONT NEED THEM with the locker????Please call me, I have to install this thing tomorrow and i need to know if I am ok with leaving these drift pins out, since the new sleeves don't even have holes for them.

Sorry to cry but D|removethispart|@mn...I can't screw this up.

I'll have BRD HTR jump on, I know Dad just put a locker in the back of his and probably remembers how it is configured.

I'm still trying to figure out what you mean by drift pins...

When you take the spider gears out of the stock Diff, you have to pound out the pins to get the sleeves out. Those pins are called drift pins.

i have a sidekick.
it's an '89.
the locker i got came with replacement rods with no holes.
i reused my original rods(no way i was not using drift pins to hold them in place).
works fine.
this may not apply to your application, but i think probably does.
ack has a write up for locker install in a tracker(or kick).
just a thought.
could be wrong.
mabe.

Ok so you just put your stock ones back in since the new ones don't have the holes for the pins.

I used the original cross cylinders with holes for drift pins when I installed my locker.  It takes a while to get used to the locker.  It seems to engage the left side first when taking off, then the right side catches (apparently normal for lockers).  I have using my tracker as a DD and a few trips off road for about 4 months with no problems.

Ladies and Gentleman...I think we have found the answer!!!

Ok, so just stick the stock cross cylinders back in with the stock pins and it will work.

I just wondered if I can use the new "Cross Cylinders" even though you can't put the drive pins back in. So you recomend not trying that.

Alrighty then.
