Title: overheating issue
Post by: silversammy86 on October 19, 2008, 06:28:00 PM
Hi folks
New guy here, into the Zuki sport.
Just picked up an 86 Sammy w/stock 1.3L, Thorley header, weber carbed, and all new exhaust.
Other than that pretty much stock ride.
Having issues with overheating. so here are some things that I'm noticing, might give some clues as to the problem solving.
Sometimes there is heat coming out from the vents, mostly blowing cold air..
Alot of blow back thru the coolant reserve r reservior.
Obviously using coolant,as I've had to replace it in the e  radiator.

I have since replaced the thermostat and radiator cap.
Still over heating.
I'm now pulling the radiator to have it pressure tested and inspected.

Anyone else experienced this issue, and discovered the solution.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Silversammy

Sounds like could be head gasket,I had one in an Izuzu that would only leak into the cylinder after you shut it off, eventualy it got bad enough that compression from the cylinder pressurized the rad.
I hope thats not what it is but if I were you I would do a cylinder leakdown test just to be safe.

The vents on the dash that face you only blow cold fresh outside air. Unfortunately you can't change that. Do you have cold air coming from the floor and defroster vents?

I agree with madmark about the head gasket! Look for constant champagne bubbles inthe radiatior while it is running and the thermostat is open! That is usually a sure sign! Or smell the blow by you are talking about!

If your radiator is not leaking, why have it pressure tested?  Change your head gasket.  Have the head checked for warping also.

Radiator tested good.
Back in the Sammy.
Gonna get it tested to see if head gasket is the issue.
Thanks for your advice and input.

Alright, Sammy got tested today.
Pushing compression back into the radiator.
Looks like, with all luck it could just be the head gasket.
Of course, won't know for sure till we break it down.
Thanks again for the advice , keep it coming.
As I am a newbie to the  Zuki world of 4x4in'

Did you compression test the cylinders?
If so what were your readings?
