What sort of compression should we be seeing? The only results I have found so far have been 150, but it didn't mention if that was an 8v or 16v?
Had 125, 135, 130, 135. So not bad numbers by any means, just wondering how they compare to stock.

The 125 next to the 135 is a little suspect to me. But I may be a little picky. :-\
150 seems to be a very commonly acceptable compression for small 4 stroke motors.
I was pleased to find my 16v at 150,150,152,150!
That's with 150K miles!

Last time I did a compression check on the Tracker, all were 140 to 150.

Not sure how you guys are measuring, but a compression test can be tricky. Numbers can be artificially low due to a # of factors, low cranking speed due to weak battery, dry cylinder walls, etc. The numbers I got from my 16v were all between 188 and 190, but the compression is higher in the 16v engine.

You've done a whole lot more engine work to your TracKick than I ever will, so I trust your opinion...
...and you may be right, but 188-190 seems a little high to me. That's getting into 2-stroke dirtbike range!
I can't seem to find the factory specs.
Now I'm worried ::)

Got that spec from the GM Factory FSM. I wouldn't worry too much though, like I said, doing a compression test can get tricky. If your engines running good, what's the diff? I had to get mine right so I could safely run the turbo. Wanted to make sure I had no leakage problems.

The engine eats oil at the rate of a quart every 400 miles or so. We are just trying to figure out if it's the head or the bottom end. :D

My tracker had 130psi on all 4 cylinders, and it was one of those 50,000 mile attarco motors. It didnt burn oil until I had put about 40,000 on it, then it burned lots of oil (it would smoke when I would compression brake down steep hills.

A cylinder leak down test will tell you much more in terms of the general health of the valves, head, and rings. It's a bit more complicated, and you'll need an air compressor as well as a set of leak down guages. Some auto parts stores rent them, Harbor Freight sells them for about $30. They usually come with instructions too.

Yea, we have access to the equipment for better troubleshooting, just wanted to get a feel for what the base numbers should be.
