Title: Engine code PO463

I had an EVAP leak and found the vent tube on the gas tank was rusted so I installed a new tank.  now I have code PO463 Fuel level sensor high input. My gas gage does not work now.  Is this what the code means.  I checked the fuel gage connection on the tank.  Help

Sounds like you need a new sending unit in the tank.

Here's the long answer:

Your fuel level sending unit has a variable resistor attached to a float inside the fuel tank. As you use fuel, the float changes position (downwards) causing the variable resistor to change value. The change in resistance causes a change in the voltage sent to the fuel gage.

The P0463 error is saying that the variable resistor is showing zero resistance instead of a typical small value.  This means that the variable resistor or something else inside the sender unit is causing the ECM to "see" an invalid (13.8 V?) voltage on the fuel gage circuit.

Time for a new sending unit...

If the voltage is too high then the resistance is too high (not zero!). Check that you have a voltage at the sender unit, if not then you have a bad connection between the ECU and the sender. Also make sure that the tank/sender is properly grounded. A missing ground will also give you a high reading.
