Title: Turbo Installed
Post by: bentparts on October 31, 2008, 03:49:16 PM
Got around to taking some photo's of my turbo install. Runs Great, even tested it on a 10 hour trail cleanup last weekend. All went perfect, except for a loose wire on my scavange pump which managed to shut off, fill the system with oil, and fill the air with clouds of smoke for a few minutes. Needless to say the group of equestrians we ran into were a bit annoyed. Got the wiring fixed in just a couple minutes and we continued on without any other mishap. It sure is nice to have real acceleration. I'm only posting up a couple of shots, the rest can be viewed at www.flickr.com/photos/bentparts.  2nd Gen turbo is where ya want to look.

AMAZING.

This is hands down the nicest, cleanest, awesomest Track/Kick I've ever seen in my entire life.   Every other Geo or Suzuki will forever be in the shadows of your Turbotracker.  Congrats.

Very nicely done! How noticable is the power difference from the stock 16v?

;) Thanks guys. The power is especially good pulling away from a stop. Even if your gentle on the loud pedal, a small amount a boost is always present. Anytime your already moving, boost is right there, and so is instant accelleration. Not the throw you back in your seat kind, but exciting and satisfying nonetheless. Passing from 40-60mph is no problem at all now, and when in cruise control mode it doesn't slow down AT ALL on hills or grades. The trade off is fuel mileage suffers, dropped a couple mpgs, at least,  and I must use premimum. Only had to pull 2 degrees from timing though. At least super is down to $2.56 here. That make's it more enjoyable.

Awesome set up!!  Very very clean!

Got some questions for you.  I'm not to up to date on my turbo knowledge, just want to learn.
How much boost are you running?  At what RPM does your engine hit boost?
Would it ever smog?

Sorry for all the questions.

Makes boost any time you push on the pedal, as little as 1 lb indicated makes a difference in engine response and pulling capability. Maxes out at 5lbs. Could push 7 lbs with stock wastegate actuator.   It passed NJ emissions with the turbo installed and NO cat.  No cheating either.

The "kit" is being engineered in China as we speak. I expect when it goes on sale it should sell for about $39.95.41 ( and preminum will be a buck a gallon again)  But Wait! If your one of the first to leave a substantial deposit, we'll DOUBLE your order! All turbo kits come with a two part 50/50  warrenty. When it breaks in half, return both pieces for a new warrenty!

Update: filled up today with super 93 octane for a 2.49 gal. (TRUE) Get your deposits in soon!

If you had an intercooler installed, you could increase the boost a little.
5 PSI is max recommended on cast pistons, over that melt down can happen

Nice work

Hey Wild, Nice to hear from you again! There is an intercooler installed. It's the air to water unit I originally used, now I've just mounted it directly to the throttle body. I cut off the original cast on flanges, and it fit nicely into the space previously occupied by the stock intake tube. Look closely at the photos and you can see the coolant inlet to the intercooler. BTW, after driving for awhile, and a few episodes of on boost activity, you can lay your hand on the intercooler and it's cool to the touch. It works great. I've only had to take out 1 degree of timing, and am going to try and go back to stock now that premimum fuel is cheaper.
