Title: odd alternator alignment
Post by: rascott on November 10, 2008, 10:25:13 AM
when i got my '89 sidekick(1.3L, carb.) i saw that the alternator was mounted so that the pulley didn't line up well with the crank or waterpump pulleys. it was |removethispart|@ 3/8" forward(toward radiator).
i ran it this way for 2 years until my alternator died and had no problems, but looked into it more closely since i was there.
the replacement alternator is the same as what i took off, the bracket appears original, and i think the setup was all original.
i modified the mount to fit.
i have found this model to be a bit of a mutt, but i can't believe it got out of manufacture like this.
anyone else experience this?
also- this uses v-belts. when did they start using the serpentine type belt?
