Title: u- joint replacement
Post by: kamaca on November 13, 2008, 04:46:15 PM
hey all,
i just removed and replaced the rear u- joint on my 1988 samurai. when reinstalling the c-clips i am only able to get one clip in on one cap but can't get the opposite clip in. new clips are slightly thicker . what's the fix ? thinner clips ??

thanks , pete

If you got the clip in on one side I'll conclude that the clips fit in the detents.
I'd say you don't have the bearing caps seated properly.

Are you using a press or another method?

I just reuse the old clips, make sure you put the sharp side out on them, and no usa u joints with the grease fitting on them on the rear shaft. call t.t. he sells a nice jap u-joint for 20.00 from mitsubishi uj-625 (old number ) but there good ones for the money.

thanks for the input. i picked up thinner retaining clips and snap ring pliers ( beats the heck out removing them with an awl and screw driver ) rings popped right in like they should !

thanks
