So my buddy got a tracker after loving mine for so many years. but it has a blown out calmini 2 inch lift on it. I showed him the OME set and said that's just retarded to spend that much...there has to be other options.
I guess i kind of agree to that. So what other shock/struts can you use for the kit that you can pick up at any auto parts store?
-
The low buck crappy kind.

The OME are worth the money if he can save up and get them. If not, the sl-cheapo struts form Autozone will work, just try to get a decent warranty on them. If your friend does much more than moderate wheeling they will blow out pretty quick.

That's just it. The ome set are pricey for a rig he just plans to take his kids camping in. It's a weekend toy nothing more. Dirt roads to very moderate off roading will be the most action it will see. I guess i agree the OME set up is great if you're an average off roader. But for what he wants it for they are a bit overkill. So what kind of shock/struts does he need. I already know cheap.
LOL
but whay KIND does he need? should he just get stock shock/struts? or does he have to get longer ones like the crown vics because of the lift??

I have OME struts and shock with 3" Calmini suspension lift. That said stock stuts and Crown Vic shocks will on dirt roads will be fine for years of use.

I am not sure what brand I went with.. It was just the moderate priced struts offered at autozone. Your struts will be factory length and your best bet for shocks is to remove one and take it with you when buying (to make sure you get teh proper length shock).

Did you have to flip the strut mount and if not are they working well?
-
No I did not flip the shock mount. Well actually I did but I had it flipped before the OME struts but flipped it back to the stock position when I installed the OME struts. Hope that made sense.

Any particular reason why you flipped the mounts back to stock after installing the OME struts? Just curious cuz I would think a 2" longer strut (OME) would benefit on a 3" lift setup with the way you had it before ???

My stock struts were only one way damped. I fitted some fairly cheap aftermarket struts that were two way damped and they were a good improvement. I've got OME stuts now but I didn't see that much of a difference. The OMEs are only 1 1/2" longer, with the Calmini 2"strut spacers as well I had too much down travel for the CVs, removing the strut spacers would have left mw with less travel than before so I made up some 1/2" spacers.
