Title: 1.6 16 valve cam gear and timing question
Post by: wedgepower on November 18, 2008, 11:51:40 AM
My buddy has a Samuri with a 16 valve 1.6 that he overheated. We pulled the head and had it rebuilt. The machine shop pulled the cam pulley so now I don't know which of the two keyway slots to use. I also don't know which timing mark to line up. There are two dots and they are both near a stamped A. When I took it apart I brought #1 to tdc and thought I had my ducks in a row. I was wrong. Any help anyone could give me at this point would be great.

thanks, ???
john

More than a few of us have had timing issues to deal with. There are plenty of existing threads on this subject you can find via the search function. Try there first, and I'm sure someone will chime in eventually.

I did use the search function,as I'm not a newbie to internet BBS'. I don't feel that the threads I found are A current enough and B deal with my exact problem. I don't need advise on something that someone MIGHT remember from 3 or 4 years ago when they were doing thiers. On top of that none of those threads even addressed the multiple keyway issue I'm having. I've tried it in several different positions. I've tried to use reasoning with it and monitored cam lobe position in relation to piston stroke. All I need is a solid answer on the keyway situation and which of the two timing dots to use and I'm good to go.

Not trying to be a pain,I just felt that my issue was something new and warranted a new thread.

thanks,
john

Someone must know the answer to this question? I'm going out to the shop to get my FSM and hopefully there'll be the correct info in there.

Thanks guys. I really feel like crap for not paying more attention when we took it apart.

If anyone does have any info to fix this problem, please by all means reply to wedge's question as I am having similar if not the exact same issue!

I believe you want to use the "E" slot for your timing.
