Title: Locker ?'s
Post by: suzi_n_sammy on September 11, 2004, 12:51:52 PM
alrighty,
i got a couple questions. I have 6.5:1 t-case gears and in 2 days im going to be able to afford 33's. so do i need to change the ring and pinion? if so will i be able to re use the lock right lockers? and if i need to replace what ratio should i get? I know it a lot of questions, thanks mucho.

I would say the gearing would be okay to run 33s. I used to run 6.12 and 33 with standard diffs and was okay. I stupidly went to 4.16 and had to change the diffs to 4.65 to get the same on rode drivability.

Another option to lockers is traction controll. ;) ;)

I was wondering when this would get a mention as it would solve the locker problem for the XL-7's. Maybe start a new thread to tell a liitle more about this.

Well the 6.5:1 gears (if they are Trail Tough gears) offer a 17% gear reduction in high gear. This isn't quite enough to get enough gearing for your 33's. So that being said I would reccoment getting a set of 4.62's or 4.889's and put them in. Yes you can reuse your old lockers so that is a bonus. Best of luck!
