well got me a messed up crank end where the timing gear slips on to a key in the keyway
the keyway is wobbled over and the key is a bit hammered too
is there a fix for this ?
im looking for a used but in good cond. timing gear and a new key timing belt and cover also got to pick up a new front main seal( do I just dig the old main seal out and tap in a new one?or is there a specific tool and way to do it )
thanks for any help

do a search. i remember reading something about this problem. i think the person used a jbweld. also im about to do a motor swap and i was just going to just put the 1.3 in my motor pile but i can check out the crank and see how it is. she has 243k on her  but runs good except the valve seals leak like a faucet. its going to be awhile due to the swap is first and xmas shopping ???

i might be wrong but dont you have to pull the crank out if your going to weld it?
you have a tig! i have a question. whats a good tig welder? my friend and I are thinking on going in halves for one. we want to get one that is portable. so if we have to take it somewhere to weld at a friends or get lucky and have a job to do

Hi Guys
Mine was messed up too and used JB Weld and locktite and its working so far.Im got a used timing gear and key,I cleaned the crank real good with a scotchbright pad and some brake parts cleaner then JB Welded the key in place, let it set for 3 days, filed down the JB so used gear would slip on then locktited the gear to crank tightened the bolt with an impact wrench and let it set 2 days put on new timing belt and its runing good so far. This is not a DD so it only gets run once a week to keep the batt charged up and when I go wheeling. If you want to see some pics go to photobucket and look at madmark_357 album.Hope this helps you.

I wish Ihad a tig my father dose so I have to take everything there to do it but the only reason I would use a welder / tig is to make sure it dosnt move agian
Im thinkin new / used gear and key loctite jb weld then tig tack weld
( if this makes no scence Iv had a few jack and coolaids) but this motor is not going to be rebuilt by me at least saving for 16v
I do haVE A WIRE FEED BUT seem I need better control so I thought a tig would get in a tighter area better weld
