Title: New <to me> Suzuki
Post by: xoloski on December 08, 2008, 02:44:03 PM
My neighbor has finally offered to part with an old Suzuki.
He's had it for at least 15 years and never done a thing but talk about it.
I don't know the year or model yet, but the make is certainly Suzuki.
It is right hand drive. He said he had it running before his kid swiped some parts off it.
He said it was brought to southeast Arizona from Hawaii, and before that, who knows.
I'm excited.
I'll post some pictures when I tow it home.
Then we can debate restoration to stock or modification with parts from my spare '87 Samurai parts unit.
Also, I recently acquired a 1.6 16V sidekick that I'll use the engine from.  I was thinking about putting it into either my '91 or '86 Samurai, but maybe in the LJ I am about to receive.....hmmm.

After owning 3 samurai's, and SJ410 and a 4-door tracker (and driving several 2-door trackers), I have to say my favorite is the Tracker / Sidekick. Just about everything about it is better. Unless you're going with BIG tires & lift, I think the Tracker / Sidekick is just a better vehicle (and arguably better even with a big lift & tires). Better power, better MPG, more room, better stability, better ride quality, WAY better road manners... and they tend to be cheaper these days. In my experience they're more reliable too (important in a DD). Off road, the tracker seems more stable. Because of the coil suspension & IFS, it's MUCH better to drive on fire roads, light-duty trails & sand. There's also a lot of after-market support for the Kicks now - tough the Samurai still has better (cheaper, and more of it) after-market support. The kick just feels more quality as well. It's clearly benefited greatly from modern engineering.

The right hand drive has a certain "cool factor" for sure. And, I do like the looks & simplicity of the Samurai. Either way, Suzuki's are fantastic, cheap & easy to work on. Good luck with your build, and get us lots of pics.

Maybe you can get an antique tag for it, don't believe I've ever seen one on a suzuki personally

Those are classic, and hard to find. It MAY (I say MAY, because of our recent economy) be worth a lot of money to someone who loves the rare body style. Might want to consider that before cutting it up. Would love to see pics soon :)

This is my "new"  LJ10.
She's a 1972 vintage with a 4 cyl watercooled Datsun engine.
I'm not really sure what to do with it,  yard ornament?
suggestions?

Smog exempt, so they're worth something to us Californians.

Clean it, tidy it, drive it.

DO NOT cut it up and modifiy it to death.  That is awesome and looks to be in really great shape.  I'd clean it up and maybe do a simple shackle extension for a few extra inches of lift...and THAT'S IT.
