Has anybody used any of the lower gears in the transfer case of a sammi,as everybody says there's is the best. Just wanting to know if anyone has had any trouble with one brand over another. Just want to spend my money on the right stuff once ,when I get it saved up.

I have the welded 4.16 to 1 set from trail tough, I have had them about a year and a half, so far so good I like them! A friend got a set of 6.4 to 1's from T.T. a couple of months ago and has had heeps try to follow him and snap axels and stuff when he did not even spin a tire, so I guess i'm going to have to save up also, mine was 399.00 and I think his was 719.00 and he runs 4.30's so it comes out great for the street and over 100 to one low range!

I've got 4:1 and like it... I know there're also 6:1 and 8:1 now too, but with my 31's and stock 3.73 I wouldn't want anything lower for the type of wheeling I do.

I run the Calmini 5.8:1 w/stock R&P. Luv the low range, but the hi range is a bit off for true 32s. Last couple trips out I've noticed a 'slapping' in the drive train (always 4low range, mostly idling over rocks). Not sure what's up, but I suspect it's something w/ the front output. Haven't had a chance to dig into it. Winter project ;D.

YOu really can't go wrong with any of the aftermarket gears these days. All have been in production for quite a while and I hve only read/seen a few break out of the 1000's I know exist. RRO, CALMINI, TRAIL TOUGH, ROADLESS GEAR, ASIAN AUTO PARTS of ARIZONA all sell 1 piece billet gears now. they are made by 3 different manufacturers (one USA, one England, one Australia) I cannot see where one is better than the other EXCEPT what the hi range reduction offers. The gears sold by RRO and Aisian Autoparts offer the lowest hi range reduction. I believe it is 24% This reduction is almost PERFECT for 33' inch tires and no axle regearing. Best of luck. Lastly, wherever you decide to but be sure to ask if they are currently in stock and if not get an exact date when they will be. Otherwise you may be waiting a while ;)

I run the Calmini 6.5 and really like it. It would have been nice if the instructions mentioned to check clearance on BOTH sides of the case though. ;D
With the 5.12's and 33's I'm a little to high geared for freeway travel, but when I upgrade to the 5 speed with an underdrive I should be able to get back up into the 60mph range easilly enough. But with the old 1.0 and the 4 speed I can still spin the tires in 4 lo and it will flip before it stops crawling up something.
I highly recomend it over a gear drop for your first modification.

I have run 4.16 in my t-case for years there great.
I would recommend buying or making a new t-case mount and using the poly mount bolts, those stock rubber mounts are junk.
The only problem i have had in three years, is one time the bolts in my short side mount worked lose from the case and in low range when you let the clutch out the case rotate and make a loud thump sound.

Not sure what gear is in mine,but with the Yota axles and it in 4-low idling you can walk around it.You do need strong mounts though,its not a pretty sight when the stock mounts come lose and winds your drive shafts up like spaghetti. You should talk to HCGALVIN. She knows quite a bit about transfer gears. She might have some good ideas for you.
