Title: SOTF Removal ??
Post by: biker on January 06, 2009, 12:28:49 PM
I have an 01 Tracker and the front diff is giving me grief so I want to eliminate it and go back to the older style front diff. I've read the article on here on what needs to be done but I can't find any info on why the pre 96 front diff assy won't work? Is it just the fact that the spline count on the sidegears doesn't match or is there a physical difference between the two thirds? Also why will the third from a Sport model not work as they are the right year and Jap built? I understand that gear ratios are a problem but I have a good supply of the older model parts available to me so swapping both ends is not a problem.
Anyone have any info on this??
Thanks

I've already read everything I can find in there but I can't find the info I'm looking for so I thought I'd try in here as there's a bit more traffic in here, in the hopes of catching someone in the know!
