I'm trying to find something that is more reliable than a regular carburator and I don't want the expense/trouble of FI. I also want to gather parts over the next couple of years to install a 1.6L turbo diesel, so I just want something reliable in the mean time without spending a ton. Thanks in advance for any of your thoughts.

My buddy had the screaming eagle 44mm on his samurai,(1.6 8v). That thing hauld ass.
We both had 33's, 6.5.1 t case gears and mine had the 1.6 16 valve with fuel injection. We both could easyly do 80-85 MPH. He did have trouble with getting the fuel pressure just set right. HE was always adjusting it.You can PM on here he is blknight87.

You can cobble up a home brewed kit but it will have issue's. The best way is to get the MS1 as it has the kinks worked out. And a used HD carb off of egay will make the kit fairly cheap. And besides, when you do the engine swap you can resell that MS in a heart beat.

I built my own CV carb setup and I really like it. I'm into the whole setup for under $110. I got the carb off of ebay and fabed my own adapter. It pulls MUCH harder than the stock setup (which ran fine). I have to be careful not to rev too high now... I can bounce it off of seven grand way to easy.

The last picture is not too accurate. I ended up having to cut the adapter a bit shorter was the carb was just barely touching the hood cross member. I ended up fabing my own air filter adapter to run a UNI dirt bike foam filter. If I had to do it again I would just by one of the open element filter setups that they sell for the cv carbs... I do like the UNI for the fact that it ways very little. I had to mod the carb just a slight bit. Here is the video I made about the mods...
