Title: Toyoto Carb and emissions
Post by: Ales Porter on January 11, 2009, 06:59:18 AM
I'm in Arizona and am not happy with the stock carb. I found an article where the carb from a Toyota  Corolla 3K-C 1.2L engine was installed on an 87 Sammy. It was a direct bolt on and eliminates alot of the vacuum hoses from the Hitachi. I want to know if this setup would most likely pass emissions testing? Anyone know? I'm guessing it would not but....

Anyone have  experience with remanufactured stock carbs from Import Carburetors?

Thanks!

Pretty much all the vac lines that are coming out of the stock sami carb are for some part of the emissions system.  Even if it did pass the emissions side of the test, it would fail the visual right off the bat...unless you got some connections ;)

Thanks Amilla... but I seriously doubt the emissions people have the knowledge to know what is stock and what is not for any vehicle.. They are simply paid to make a cursory review of what is under the hood..  The most time I have seen any of them spend examining under the hood is 3-5 seconds top!

If the Toyota carb will pass emissions, emissions would not care one bit.

In Smog Nazzi California, they'd probably catch it (they're required to check the vacuum diagram against what you have installed). Not sure how anal retentive your people are out there. If it's cheap enough, I say go for it. If it fails, just go to a shop where the tech is less thorough- there's always some around.
