Title: ECM help.
Post by: Litl-1-der on January 12, 2009, 05:34:16 PM
Hellow all> It's been about three years since my last post. I have had a health problem but am now back on some of my projects . I used to be known as Hillbilly, guess I became a lost sheep and had to make a name change. Appreciate all of the info. I have recieved on this sight over time. My problem: ECM bad. There used to be a post on here detailing the parts needed to fix these, I'm not sure but I think it was maybe from Tenn. Tracker. Not sure. Anyway, need some info on repairing or someone who is repairing.  91 Samurai.

Have three---they are truly Litl-1-ders.

Its usually the electrolytic capacitors that cause the problem. They differ between different ECUs, you need to read the part numbers off the existing caps and then select new items with the correct temperature range and ripple current rating.
Note: The ECU is static sensitive. A properly grounded (1M+) workmat and wriststrap is the bare minimum requirement for working on PCBs along with an earthed soldering iron.
