Title: Snorkel Inlet Question
Post by: zukizuki07 on January 16, 2009, 04:25:10 PM
Hello all, going to go down to pick up some " classy" pvc to make my snorkel, and I was wondering if anyone knows where or if I can buy an inlet like the safari style snorkel.

You can buy the heads seperately from an ARB dealer. Alterantively look at tractor pre-cleaner filters.

Something like this is commonly used in the UK:

Usually they connect to the standard airbox.

I've seen these used:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Halex-2IN-PVC-SERVICE-ENTRANCE-CAP-77920_W0QQitemZ360114854717QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20081209?IMSfp=TL081209209001r14784 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Halex-2IN-PVC-SERVICE-ENTRANCE-CAP-77920_W0QQitemZ360114854717QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20081209?IMSfp=TL081209209001r14784)

I still can't get a straight answer as to WHY they're even needed. The tiny amount of rain water that will get in via a 3 or 4" hole isn't harmful to the engine at all. In fact - in Turbo installs it's common to use water injection to help cool the intake charge down, and has the added benefit of keeping the valves clean. Yes - seriously.

I've heard the ARB intake is "available" in theory, but have yet to actually see one, or the price. I've only seen the full $300+ snorkel kit.

I must say I'm still a little shocked someone hasn't come up with a snorkel to compete with ARB. I don't see why someone couldn't sell an over-glorified piece of pipe for 1/2 of what ARB does, and still make a good profit. Plastic manufacturing is pretty cheap these days.

not so much really worried about a ton of rain water getting in, as much as rain water, combined with a large amount of water from tank trap style "fun zones" in my area lol

ARB sells the inlet separately.....at the low price of $70 dollars! insane! I agree.... someone needs to make a kit, charge half the price and make a killing.
