Title: For those who have worked on the 1.8 motor
Post by: boyirish6 on January 21, 2009, 06:42:02 PM
Alright, I have started to dive into the swap of the 1.8 head swap.  These things are pretty diffrent than what I am use to. SO YES I AM A NOVICE HERE!!! I am not much on motor mechanics.   Where I am stumped is on the removal of the cams.  Is there a secret to the instillation of them what has to be done on proper instilation.  IS just having the motor at TDC the bigest key?

Are there any secrets I need to know about this.  Cause I will tell you I am not looking forward to ripping this motor down.   I am so use to 1.3 motors and 1.6 they are a breeze to work on.  This thing looks like a pain in the ARSE!!!!

Why the 1.8? What you putting it on? Why a cam swap? This sounds interesting...

The only secret is to get a good manual from your local auto parts store. Seriously. It'll step you through everything you need to know. Make sure you pre-lube with assembly lube, or at minimum oil (I recommend assembly lube, as I think the $5 tube is cheap insurance). Have you consulted ACK's FAQ? It's usually got good stuff. I check it before every project.

No this 1.8 motor is diffrent in the fact that you have to remove the Cams to get to the Head bolts.  An being that it is a twin cam set up with two chains it looks to be a pain in the a$$ matching every thing up and making sure the head is at TDC.   Basicaly I was able  to source out a used head and I am getting ready to insall it.  Iam ripping down the motor to get everthing ready.  I am not doing anything diffrent thank swapping heads.
