Title: my centerlink is eating my tires
Post by: r0ckstarr79 on September 02, 2004, 07:37:05 AM
For the last couple days or so, my front end developed this rough shake right at 30 - 60mph. Its coming from the passenger side. I can hear alot of road noise coming from that tire, as well as trying to hold the steering wheel steady. Its giving that tire a beating also. In return the drivers side tires is showing little wear as well.. Every autoparts store in this area shows them as 'not available'.

Yea it will. I know some people running the A.S.S. (Andys Samurai Steering) an they love it. It looks just like what roadless gear is selling.

This sounds alot like a Sympathetic bump shimmy.  Sudden attack of the shaking steering wheel like your steering box is in a boxing match.   This can be caused by a bad tire, or excessive wear in the steering.

Usually I try rotating the tires and checking the front end for excessive play.  I most often find the lower king pin bearings worn out, rusted, and holding water.

The steering above is a nice mod, but I am concerned that it may not fully correct your problem.

its always a had a very small unnoticable shake to it. Just the last few days it got really bad... I can go out there and grab the centerlink, and move it up and down about a half inch to an inch..

woot! found a junkyard with 11 samurais, tintops and softtops. I got the centerlink off one with 50k miles that had been rearended for 30.00. Thats my temp fix until I get some cash up to order the high steer kit..(right now im working on getting some lifted springs thru eaton springs)...

Next time I go out there, im gonna make a thread a couple days before to see if anybody wants anything, and see if i can find it for them...
