Title: Running lockers in the midwest environment ?
Post by: RazBarlow on January 31, 2009, 04:18:53 PM
I live in Iowa and we have all kinds of weather, snow,Ice,heat, rain you know the bit. I was just wondering if the people that have the same environment run lockers on their DD ? If so, what type/brand are good and where do you get them ?
Thanks,
Raz

I forgot to mention, this would be pertaining to a 1994 2 door tracker.

I ran a lock right in my 89 sidekick I use to have.  Worked fine, but took some getting use to, driving with it on the road (which was no surprise).

For on/offroad use you only want to run a rear locker, not a front locker correct ?
Thanks,

You could run a front locker.  Unless you have it in 4wd, you will not even know it's there.

I put a steel diff in the front with a locker, in the rear I'm gonna do a spool. I've driven welded rears on the street and found it manageable. As far as the locker in the front, I think mines a "Detroit" or "Eaton", I don't remember, they're the same. I would'nt wheel seriosly without it. Lock the hubs and you loose turning radius, engage 4WD and turns get real tough.  In the woods I engage and disengage constantly getting around trees, with the rear spooled I'll do this less.

well I run a rear mini spool in my 94 tracker in minnesota, I do alot of daily driving with it on the road, highway, town.  Love it I like it better in the winter than stock.  AS for turning since a spool keeps it locked up all the time I just turn alittle wider, unless I have to turn tight.

I would do mini spool again in a heartbeat, I am parting out my tracker now and the spool will be going into my samurai.
