Title: Surf rack/light bar ideas?
Post by: dwcrisp on August 26, 2004, 03:00:00 PM
I want to do a surf rack/ light bar rack across the top of my windshield on my ragtop 98 Tracker.  I need to get one that will let the top fold back.  Any ideas out there on an after market model or how to get one custom made?

I fitted some OE bars to mine. If you have a look on my site under mods, rack you will see how it all fits on. It uses the fixing points Suzuki provide so there are no extra holes to drill. You just need to know where to find them  ;D

I like the rack from Calmini and Rhino, I like the way yours looks.

I have an idea of using an Olympic Maxi light bar made for a jeep (available from Quadratec etc) and having the main U bar re-bent and or cut by a shop to fit the taller but narrower windshield.   I will bet that the mounting tabs will fit on the frame around the windshield in about the same manner as on a jeep.   I was thinking of one for the front above the windshield  and one for the middle above the rollbar, and I would have my rack and still be able to use the fold back option for the top.   I am trying to make this in a way that will balance my surfboards over the middle of the Truck, and still let me use all of my top options.

Thanks for the replies

my idea moves forward...  I took a prinout of the Olympic Maxi Light Bar for a jeep along with a PDF download from the company website that describes the light bar very clearly to a local welder fabricator.  They looked it over and stated they could custom modify the light bar to fit my tracker windshield frame easily or maybe make one from scratch that would totally meet my specs for about the same cost, maybe less! So the idea moves on...

Now we are about to get killed by the worst hurricane in Florida history for my area of the state and this will be on hold for a few weeks (if my car survives)
