Hey anyone weld their rearend if so how did u do it and also any pics how to's!!

Welding the rear is generally a bad idea. I've seen it done many different ways and each method has lead to failure of the 3rd member / carrier. The better thing to do is to save up for a mini spool or a locker. If you still would like to do it, I'm pretty sure there is a thread in our DIY section about this.

Does anyone else remember Liquid Steel? I wonder if that stuff would work, if it's still around. Just cap off your carrier with tape and pour it in...

Me and my brother have welded many rear ends up....240SX, Tacomas, Rangers and some broncos.
They have all been tested with massive amounts of burn outs...none to this day have broke or destroyed a 3rd.
We weld up the spider gears then insert a cube of metal in between it all and weld it all solid. I will see if i can find any pictures of it.

let me know if u find any closeup pics kause im buildin on a buget and i have talked to alot of people and they said if ur just wheelin it which i am then ill be fine if i drove it everyday it might end up breaking somthing

I have been running a welded rear end for several months now on a daily driver with no breakage. All depends on how it's welded and how hard you are on it. I do not have any pics, but we split the carrier, exposing the spider gears. Then welded all four spider gears together along with the one sidegear still in the carrier. Not just tacked either....welded soild! The only thing not welded was the side gear that fit in the other half of the carrier.
My advice would be however, if at all possible save up the $110 for a minispool.

im having it done by someone that welds for a living and he is using stainless rod he is good i should be ok i hope lol :-\

My buddy has been running his welded track diff for a couple years now and now has 38's on it and the only failure was both rear shafts, one snapped in places and the other just twisted about 4 to 5 splines. Just be real careful to keep the top gear flat in case so it will bolt together, and try to put as much material in as you can, a big ball of molten metal!!! 8)

mine only has 32s and 1.6 8v i dont think i will have to much of a problem snapin axles LOL
