100 dollar welder, 30 dollar grinder and 80 bucks in steel gave me this.
Some angle iron,2x4x3/16 box tube and 1 1/4 by 3/16 tube. I built this in mind with a 1" body lift so the grill wont go back on untill I get the body lift on. In the pictures it looks like the stinger is too tall , but it is only about 5-6 inches about the grill.
Be kind on the welds Im still learning how to weld!!!!!!!
Oh and its not done I am putting a skid plate from the bottom of the bumper to the frame. Probably use 1/8 steel plate.

What kind of welder did you get for $100?
looking good
-
Harbor Freight Easy Mig 100. Normaly $129.00. and it was on sell for $99.99. Works damn good too,
-
Nice! I will have to look into that
Thanks

Is that the wire feed welder? gas-less? I want to buy a cheap welder(will be my first) so I can fabricate my own bumpers and bodywork.
How thick can the steel be before the welder becomes useless? 1/16? 1/8? 1/4?
Would you recommend it as a first welder?
-
Nicely done.
I'm a big fan of stingers, I cant wait to see it complete with grill and skid.
-
Yes gas less wire feed. It is a very friendly welder. I have never welded before I bought this. I got a bunch of scrap steel from a neighbor and just started practicing for about a day or so. Once you get the concept it is easy.It can weld mild steel up to 3/16 which is a tad smaller than 1/4 inch.
Thanks heiney.5 I love the way stingers look also. I should finish the front skid and body lift this weekend. When its all said and done I will post up another pic if the damn sun would ever come out >:(
It has been snowing and foggy here like a week now >:( I am sick of it >:(

Awesome. I'm glad to hear that Harbor Freight's cheap mig welder isn't junk. That'll be the one I buy when I get around to it this spring.
Another important question. Can I build load bearing and structural cages and bumpers with that welder? Your stinger looks really nice. It gives me some confidence for making armor or a cage with the same welder.
-
Well I built a bumper with it.so yes to bumpers. I have heard stories of improper built cages coming apart on roll overs and pieces of the cage actually killing people from stabbing inside them. Can this welder build a roll cage, Yes, But if you are not a expert welder DONT DO IT. A welder is only good as the person is using it. Ive seen people with a 70 dollar stick welder do some damn nice work.
For bumpers, sliders, repairs and what not, this welder is just fine.

Awesome. I'll get that one then. Maybe even sooner than I thought! If I'm lucky.
Gonna be a while till I'm fabbing my own armor.....the Tracker is starting to come apart at it's seams due to rust. Well...I'm exaggerating, but it does need some bodywork. Having just started to weld your own stuff....have you any tips for another novice?
-
YEAH THAT WELDER LOOKS LIKE A GOOD DEAL.
CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE PICS
THANKS FOR THE INFO ON THE WELDER
-
when you are welding you are looking for a half moon glow kinda like ( . And then move the tip back and forth, but not to fast you want it to penetrate bothe pieces you are welding. It is also stronger to notch the pieces if you can like this \/ and then weld in the gap instead of welding to pieces like this ll kinda confusing but practice makes perfect.

I like that front bumper, wish I had the time and space to make one like that.

CHICK MAGNET for sure ..... my skill saw got mad at me the last time I cut 1/4" steel ...lol
I just have the water jet do the cutting now ....
