If you have a 1999 - 2004 GV or Tracker, have you been able to mount a 31" tire on the spare tire carrier, or does it rub against the bumper. I saw this guys product on ebay that seems to cure the problem. The question is, is it a problem?

Is it absolutely necessary? No. Will your 31" rub the bumper without it? Yes. It will push the plastic bumper cover down a bit. Also depends if it's a true 31" tire or a 30.5" tire.

Take the plastic off the rear bumper. The metal looks ok, just paint it black.

the 245 mtr's i ran on my GV JUST fit over the bumper, again it depends on what the tire actually measurs out to
-
On my 31"s, I just drilled new upper holes and used a carbide rotaty bit to hog out the lower mount holes, and lifted the mount and bolted it back down. Even carrying the tire AND a full Gerry can, it never moved.
Cost? Free

I cut the mount down the middle and welded it together offset. It was nessesary to clear my 31's

drop the bumper covers.. if you're wheeling for real (not just driving down dirt roads..) the plastic will eventually just get torn off anway. i've even torn the whole steel bumper off hooking it on a massive hidden stump in a swamp.. more gas was bad that day!
-
^^^ i did that once as well on my sidekick, only i hooked it on a tree and tore it clean off hahahaha

I run a 31 inch spare and it's fits fine. I put a 1/4 wheel spacer to push it back a bit but honestly I don't think that is necessary. That is on the stock spare rim.
