At some point this summer I will be taking my sami down to the dunes in OR and I'm wondering how well my tires will work in the sand aired down?

Those Swampers are heavy duty tires and have thick sidewalls, so you will have to air them way down to get them to work in sand. If you don't bring them down to at least 12lbs you will just dig holes. I reccomend 10-11lbs and they will do great.

Should be fine, but I would go down to 6 or 8 lbs. I run my Jeep at 6lbs out there with 33s, and the difference between 6lbs, and 10lbs is night and day.

I run them on the trails at 6 psi

I would run them at 5 psi or less (as long as you can keep them on the bead).
Of the swampers I have had, I've had to run them at 5 to get any noticeable bulge in the sidewall.

One of my freinds had a set of thornbirds, and he would acually pull the valve stem core and run them at 0. They were so stiff they still didnt bulge much.

In the Tracker I run 6 up front and 4 in the back on the sand (32 MTR's)

5-8 pounds is good. You will want more power though. Still a lit of fun. Where are you going exactly?

In sand, the wider the better.

I don't have much sand experience in sand . If you run tires designed for desert use would would you still have to air down? The reason I ask is Stone Tire has a set of tires called Ugly Dogs with desert tread. These are retreads wont set you back to much. Put em on rims and swap them when you go to the dunes.
