Title: Suzuki GV 4WD problem

I have a Suzuki GV 53 plate.  I am having problems with the 4 wheel drive.  Intermittently it keeps engaging 4wheel drive for no reason.  The 4WD lights up on the dash, it sometimes actually goes into 4wd and sometimes not.  When it pops in there is sometimes quite a shudder, or clunking noise, and when it pops out again there seems to be a 'winding down' sort of noise.  Without moving the 4wd lever I know it is technically impossible that this can happen.  What is going on - does anyone know?

The front diff in the GV is a vacuum opperated unit and as a fail-safe
if there is no vacuum it will lock into 4WD, I would check for loose
and or broken lines that go to it.

Wh-wh-what??  Really?

Before I had my custom driveshaft made, I capped the rear output (paint-can cap + big hoseclamp) and tooled around in 4WD (so, front wheel drive).  Unfortunately, I also had yet to re-attach my e-brake cables.  When putting the truck in 'P'ark, with the motor running, all good.  But, turn off the engine (and, with it, the vacuum pump).....wheeeee!  Free rollin' downhill.  Had to carry chocks with me and be creative.

That, along with everybody's bitching about the SOTF's susceptibility to vacuum-related failure on-trail and shenanigans require to defeat it, has me thinking otherwise.

Fix that vacuum leak soon. Like - yesterday, or you'll burn out the pump and spend some $$$ trying to fix it. The clunking is a common 'problem' too and seems to be 'normal'.

I'm pretty sure its pressure operated, I have this system on the front of my first gen (with GV axle). I would check for a short in the pump wiring.
