At work today they were going to through away an old frame that a Robot came on. It is made of 1 1/2" X 3 " U channel . I was wondering if anyone made a home built bumper out of U channel and how wide they used ? I was thinking either go with the 3" "tall" or weld two pieces together to make the bumper 6" "Tall " ?
Anyone ever done this ?
Have any pics ?
Thanks,
Raz

Jeep YJ bumpers are basically just a piece of C Stock. Not sure on the height though.

Here is a pic of what I ended up with , then I took the plasma cutter and cut out all the long pieces.

That is one GIG bumper. Just kidding, I have actually made a couple bumpers for jeeps, Zuk's and stock cars from that type of C-channel. It is strong and fabbed easy. Happy building.

Like I said , it is only 3" wide/wide. Would that look too small or look ok ?
Thanks,

It'll be 100x stronger than stock, lighter than box tube, and free material...
Don't see how you can go wrong

I built my rear out of 2X4 tube, and the trimmed the corners with 2X2. Do the same thing with your channel. Keep throwing ideas at it until something fits you and the car.
