First off hellow to everyone,i'm new to this board but i've been reading posts for a while. I own a 97 tracker with 3 inch cal mini susp. lift and 31x10.50 tires.
My gearing question is,when searching junk yards for 5.62 gears is there an axle code or tag that tells what gearing the vehicle has? I'm looking for 5.62 gears to replace my 5.12's.Also, what are you guys doing to correct spedometer gearing so it reads correct?

i never heard of 5.62 gears. there is 4.62 in the auto trackers, 5.12 in manual. 5.82-ish from calamini

89 1.3 carbed trackers and kickers had 5.33??? gears in them

ya i almost had set of 5.62's out of a an 89 5 speed 4x4, im not sure if thats the only year etc.etc. but i know they are rare and i think you can only find them in the 89's but im not an expert, so dont quote me on that.

The 5.6 is from a 89 1.3l sidekick. I had been seaching for a set also. I started a tread on the garage sale section. There is a company in Singapore that can manufacture the gear but they need a sample.

Thanks for the replies! does anyone know if there is an axle code or spid label designation on the vehicle that says what gearing is in the vehicle?And if so what code is the 5.62 ratio? thanks,Tom.

have you considered changing the t'case gears?
when you factor the price of swapping the R&P's compared to swapping the t'case gears, it's way cheaper to go with the t'case, not to mention most t'case gear suppliers often reduce the lo range considerably lower

way better but not sure by how much, should get your speedo closer to stock
I'd be concerned with the front 3rd when turning the LTB 33's (13.5? that's a wide mother!) there's more teeth on that lil ring in such a small pig, the thinner teeth should give in sooner than you think! especially if your locked up front
I ran a 5.13 gearset locked in the rear of my sammi on 31's and it didn't last 500km
try that in an aluminum carrier in your kick on 33's? I'd say 250 kms til she goes

Ok, here goes another long winded reply...sorry people.
The Suzuki gearing goes as such, to the best of my memory:
Tackick
4.30- Ca model 16v 2 door auto
4.62- 2 door auto and 91 only 4 door 8v
5.12- all 1.6 5 speed 2 doors and all 4 doors, auto and manual, except 91 8v 4 doors
5.38- 91 8v 5 speed 4 door only
5.62- 89 1.3 5 speed only
Sammy
3.73- all swb
3.90- all lwb, including pickups
Trackers/Vitaras/Grand Vitaras
4.10- all 5 speeds
4.88- all autos
XL-7
5.12- manual and auto
I hope these numbers are a good reference for you all. These are the numbers that I have found under very intense research over the last few years. And, no I don't have any 5.62s, I almost had a set of 5.38s, but the truck ended up being an auto.

Offtopic, but...
How do the 5.83's work out with 33" LTB's?
Speedo reads 5 MPH fast with an Auto Trans
and the stock speedo drive gear.
I like the way it runs, but I think a 33 Radial
would take a lot less power to turn

Im sure Rhinoman will read this and add his comments,
but We both run 33s and he runs the Calmini R&Ps 5.83 and it has not improved things that much, The drive is better but not great,
I still run stock gearing and mine also isnt the best . mine is a jap one and seems to pull a little better as on the road is ok , Im looking at the transfer double or maybe the t case gears as like the post above says , running 33.12.50s soon wears out your drive train and i dont want to install expensive R&Ps as i dont think they will last.
Traction and clearance on the diffs is differently an advantage but any slight play in the front diff and I tend to blow it to bits, (need a front locker) Touch wood I have not yet blown a front ally casing.

It has made a big improvement, I can maintain 60mph instead of 50 on the big hills but I remember when it used to struggle to hold 70 on the same hills. That was with stock gearing, on lower than stock it flew right up them .

5.38- 91 8v 5 speed 4 door only
Really? Can I swap 4.62s out of my auto to 5.38s out of a manual? How hard is this to do? Another question is how to find some 5.38s... or which is the easiest gear to find? 5.12s for my 4-door, I think Heather suggested that to me a while back?

pull the axles and remove the 3rd member, put the new member in and reinstall the axles
if the R&P is not installed into the carrier than your best bet is to take it to a shop or someone with experience with setting up your backlash
