Hey all, I have a 1995 Suzuki Swift 5-speed with 118,000 miles on it. Transmission went out last night 2 blocks from my house :( I need opinions on what I should do. I don't want to just scrap it at the junk yard because the motor is still good. I would like to keep it but I don't know of where I can find a trans around here (61554). So I guess my question to all you is, Is it worth trying to fix, should I pull the motor, or should I just scrap it? Thanks all
Edit: Will a Geo Metro 5 speed trans from a 1.0 3 cy mate with my 1.3 4 cy?

#1 check out teamswift.net
#2 check craigslist.org and kelly blue book to get a value of your vehicle, and call around to see how much it would cost to get a new transmission installed. I can't answer this for you 'cause I'm sure cost / availablity in my area is going to be different than yours.

id say throw another tranny in it. (i had a 91 firefly turbo) and threw 3 transmissions in it till i sold it for my sidekick.
there very reliable little cars other then the diff gear in them (prone to blowing out the side of the case)
cost me about $180-200 CND to do the swap myself including buying a used transmission, flywheel machining and a new clutch kit.
id buy another one if i had the room, much better commuter then my sidekick (bit better on the highway...)
if you have basic mechanic skills you can swap the transmission yourself... pretty easy to do even yourself (less then 50 pound transmission) usually did the swap in a day if all goes well in the driveway with handtools.

I checked KBB in your area, a 95 Swift in excellent condition is worth $1,485. If it is good shape, and you can swap out the tranny yourself, I would keep it, a wrecking yard wouldn't give you half that that price.
