Hello Everyone! Great site you have here. I just recently acquired a 97 16v 5speed 2WD Tracker
I have a few questions.
1. I would like to get a rear locker or spool. Which woul you recommned for mild offroading to help since my truck isnt 4x4
2. What engine mods are recommneded? Header?
3. I would like to convert to 4wd eventually, what all is needed? Will the earlier track/kick transfr cases and axles work?
Thanks!

TrackerJoe, welcome to the site man!! I've read here somewhere that a locked 2wd is as capable as a unlocked 4wd. I say go for it! As far as the 4x4 conversion, I think the front axle and hard ware will work, but I'm not 100% sure. You will need the T-case, axle, cv shafts, front driveshaft, and knuckle/bearing/locking hub assembly. There may be some other stuff like different crossmember for T-case, and different rear driveshaft. It sounds complicated but it's definitely worth it.

Should I get the lockrite locker or the mini spool?
Does the spool hamper turning to much?

Hi,
Our 1999 Tracker, 4x4 was repaired with the new cross members bar that actually broke while we were driving it. Now the frame is rusting out. I would think twice about remodeling a vehicle that is rusting to pieces. (check the under carriage for rust) If there was a way to repair it we probably would do that beings the Tracker is paid for but between the rusting frame, rusting cross members and the AC always needing repairs we don't believe the vehicle is worth the trouble. If anyone has information on Chevy repairing the frame please tell us.
Thanks,
dlm
