OK, first of all, I'd love to know who the designer was that placed the oil filter on my 2008 Grand Vitara in the most inaccessible place possible. Draining the oil is a breeze, but that God awful filter location makes me want to cry. Does anybody have any tips? I was able to do it, but I can't repeat the language that was running through my head in public.

Removing the filter is an art, although if you prop it somewhere and then retrieve it from below, it's a bit easier. I still tend to do it all from topside, though.
On another front, I like to place aluminum foil below the filter before removing, to channel the oil that escapes into the pan. Makes cleaning up afterward much, much easier.

How in the world do you do it from topside? I would love to watch you do that. Are there any special tricks/tools the dealerships use to change the oil filter that might help?

Ha thats funny. I cant even find it. WHere is it?
Im not completely ignorant about my car. Ive fitted a heap of stuff etc but I cant find the oil filter on my diesel. To be honest I guess it may be a diesel thing. This is my first diesel ever.
