Hello will a 89 sidekick five speed fit in place of my 95 tracker 5spd without any modes? Also did all 89 come with the 5.62 gears and would they bolt in without any modes?
Thanks!

Does it have the 1.3L carburated or the 1.6L 8 valve?
If it is the 1.6L 8 valve, it will swap over. But we have found that some of the 16 valve transmissions have a slightly different bell housing, so you might want to swap those between transmissions. You will also have a slightly lower 5th gear, so your RPM's on the freeway will be higher then before.
If it is the 1.3L engine then it will have the lower gears, but you cannot use the transmission. Not sure about if you swapped the bell housings or not, but I know the bolt up is different.

No matter whether the 89 has a 1.3 carbed or a 1.6 EFI engine, the tranny will work in a 95. If the 89 has the 1.6, then it is a direct swap. If the 89 has the 1.3, then you will have to swap the bellhousing from the 95 to the 89 tranny (the actual trannys are the same, it is just the bellhousings that are different).
Very, very few 89s came with the 1.3 and 5.62s. The majority have the 1.6 and 5.12s or 4.62s.
Yes, if you find some 5.62 thirds, then they will bolt into your 95 without any mods.

Not sure about that...I thought they were a low optioned base models, "cheapest 4x4's on the lot" type of thing. With that being said, mine came factory with AC! Go figure!

I am pretty sure they weren't low optioned base models. The only 1.3 sidekicks I have heard of and ran across have been very early 89 model year built ones (all have had build dates of 8/88 or older). Suzuki started making the 89 model year sidekicks with the 1.3 carbed engine, then for whatever reason (either ran out of stock, or decided it was not a practical engine for the sidekick, or ?) they started putting the 1.6 EFI engines in.
sir lance,
Probably the reason you hadn't ever seen one, is because they are pretty rare to run across (since there weren't many built, and they are old enough that most of them that were out there have probably been scrapped). I have only ran across a few people on the internet than have ever had one or have had a set of 5.62 gears from one. Plus, most people that have one, or have had one, don't/didn't know they were "special", and had some very rare parts on them. The guy I bought mine from just considered it another sidekick.

I have a buddy that worked for Suzuki back when the Kick was introduced and we catually had this conversation before. He showed me the factory sales training literature that showed it as an entry level base model with the 1.3. If you wanted power steering or an auto you had to get the 1.6. It was plain and simply a cheapest Kick on the lot kinda thing.
