Title: Bike stalls when I turn on lights
Post by: sonofzuki on April 30, 2009, 10:51:14 PM
I have a 1980 GS 250T.  When it's running, I'll turn on the lights and the engine decreases about 100 rpms.  If it's on low idle, it will stall.  Some times the lights won't come on, but it still affects the rpms.
The battery is new and stays fully charged during all of this.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'm brand new to this forum.
Thanks

This forum is about Suzuki autos, not motorcycles. ;)

However, it sounds like there is a problem with the stator, or possibly a short somewhere that is causing a high amp draw. Hope this helps!

Most bikes I have dealt with have two sets of windings, one set is switched in when the lights are turned on to provide the extra power. Check the alternator, the wiring, the handlebar switch assembly and the regulator.
