Question guys i just got my truck on the road with the lift and the rear locker.
Is it supposed to click when i go around a corner real slow?
Feels weird when u are in a turn and u accelarte the back end goes left right real quick.
I think this is normal?
But man in the mud i do not need 4wd lol.
-
normal ;D ;D ;D
-
Yep pretty much normal, after a while you wont even notice it M.Z.
-
Coo cause i was like i do not want to pull the diff back out lol screw that.
Works good tho man love it
-
in the rain dont go pushing the loud pedle when u are turning u might catch a quick glimpse at ur own back side lol
-
I'll second that, I got to watch
the skinny pedal useage even
going straight with the turbo ;D

The side to side thing feels spooky at first,  after awhile the other cars you drive seem strange when they go straight.
Clicking is working.  Gas it and the click will go away.....but then the tires will bark A LOT.  Not something I would recomend in the rain or snow.
Slow turns with it locked are a blast,  but hard on parts in the dry.
I took mine to a loading dock,  got the pass rear off the ground,  and in 2wd drove back and forth.  Laughing like a little kid of course.
ENJOY!!! ;D

Pros
ur truck is a 3 wheel drive not a 4x2 lol in the snow or deep mud
ive noticed better traction off road
Cons
CLicks around turns and maybe more tire wear
I would never weld a rear diff unless its for off road only also when u weld hardened gears u weaking them. Proven fact

Ive ran a lock rite in the rear and a detroit ez locker in the front for years. The rear took less than a week of driving to get use to, and like mentioned above, now open diff vehicles feel wierd to drive. The lockers have held up great through years of abuse. The only welded diff vehicle I have ever driven pushed through corners and felt wierd for me to drive (forgranted it was a jeep on 35's). As for the snow, etc... Yes the vehicle will slide out easier if you get on it in slick situations. But if you travel slow and steady, you'll find yourself going alot futher in bad situations than the open diffed vehicles.
I personally would make lockers my first upgrade if I was building another vehicle, I would not want to wheel without them.
HTH,

pro's: it's dirt cheap, (50 bucks if you don't already have a welder),
no clicking, the traction is always there( i hate when a locker engages, BAAM! that can't be good)
con's: hardened steel and welding is a no-no ( yet I never broke a weld yet!)
on road manners suck
my current locker is a fozzy style locker, I filled in every second tooth in the side gears with blobs of weld so there is a bit of differential action going on but not much, alot of loading and unloading on the trail causing lots of wear on the spider gears,
the only reason I did it this way is cuz I got alot of spare kick sidegears kickin around and is cheaper to replace than a whole carrier that has been welded to the gears. hasn't failed me yet, but I bring a spare 3rd when I'm on the trail

I hear many complaints from people with lockers.
Old age, developing funky habbits locking somthimes in corners and not other times, act crazy once the housing gets distorted, bad / weak springs, pins, ect.
I have not heard anyone complain who has welded their Diff . Most of the bad press is from people who have not done it (Haters). Yes the facts about heat hardening, slag contamination, & tire wear are true. But I've wheeld 4 FREE welded diffs with no breakage, and no damage or wear issues. My truck respons the same way in every corner and the time it takes to learn the respoonse of a welded rear v/s locker on the road is the same. Once you weld it you learn to drive it a little different.

NOPE NOT NO MORE. SHE TWISTED AN AXLE & TOOK IT OUT.

i don't ahve over 500 miles on my tracker with a welded diff and i had to change axle shafts.  still have them for trail spares but the are like 1.5 splines off :-/ the bottom line, if your tracker is you DD, DON'T DO IT

I saw Stu's axles shafts, the welded diff didn't like pulling out the Full size blazer!! :o

I've had my lock rite in the rear for 8 years, it's been beat HARD and is still working fine. I have had a couple of pins break through the years, but when you snap rear shafts on a regular basis, I just check the locker's parts when I'm cleaning all of the axle peices out of the diff :P
Alot of our club members are welded and the only complaints I have heard is from the ones that weld the front.
szabotage or whitfield,
The Jeep I drove handled fine at slow to moderate speeds but felt wierd at 50+MPH. When going through a curve at speed, it seemed to spastically push out during the turn. It would be turning fine and then half way through a curve it would push out (and quick :o). Dose yours do that? If so is that the part you learn, like learning how to take slow tight turns with an auto-locker without getting the ol-backlash :-/ Then again, it could just be one of those jeep things that I would not understand :P

I'm running a Mini-Spool in the rear and haven't had any real problems. And after a while, you get used to the chirping when driving around in the parking lots with your tires aired down. ;D I went the mini-spool route as I didn't want to bother with welding the diff.
Of course, I don't drive much on-road at all and the 410 maxes out around 50, so I may not be the best person to listen to.

Well guys went mudding this weekend.
All i have to say is that there was more mud and these trails were the same ones as last time when i did not have the locker. I was in 2wd most of the time besides when i went over rocks or larger trees.
Im very happy and impresed with this locker.
My buddies were with me in the Tj's lol they both got stuck and i had to pull them out lol. ;D

;D I love a good Jeep story

That is the part that you learn. You become acustomed to shifting the weight of the vehicle to make it turn sharper. My Sammy pushed in the front, but it never did this spastically,  It was just an even noticable push that was most prevalent on interstate on ramps and such.  It did this more with the BFG At's then with Swampers.  With the Swampers it wouldn't push as much, Less bite on the road.  It was very easy to predict and control, Very fun to drive.  I found that old sammy today in a neighborhood I was passing thru, Had to back up and do a double take...  It has been gone 4 years now.  Only difference is the 33" BFG at's are new and the Camo is freshend up. Thanks, That is exactly what I was wondering about. ;)
