If the screws on the instrument cluster are on the outside its an 88, if not its an 88.5.

I think not! the 88.5 has stronger bars behind the dash to hold things together.

No US samurais were EFI until 90.

They were in Kalifornia, sold as an 88.5 model, this was the last model year they were sold in Kalifornia.

Wish I could, they were extremely rare, but I know we had them, a girl I was in High School with had one. This was the last year we had the Sammi imported to my state. I am not trying to start an argument here, I just know we had them due to smog reasons.

I am not trying to start an arguement either.  But I am 99.9% sure there were no EFI samurais in the US until 1990.  If they are out there, you should be able to find one on the web, or at least find a mention of one.
There were some changes that took place with the 88.5 samurais, but EFI was not one of them.

;) Hey Bob, if you don't get that rig finished soon, it'll end up being found in an archaeological dig a few thousand years from now! If ya need some help holla back, got some free time. Get that other axle done too, were getting ready for our 1st annual " Lost in the Piney's " overnight camping run. Ya'll better make it!
