Title: 2nd Gear Transmission shake
Post by: MX5ZUKIWRX on May 23, 2009, 12:26:44 AM
Hello . . . first time post.

I drove my "free" 87 TinTop 1.3L 5sp for the first time after going through the top end of the engine (overheating had burned all four exhaust valves). At the top of first gear, 4K rpm and again in second gear, 2K-4K rpm, the transmission has a fairly violent shake. It is only present under acceleration. It is not present in any other gear at any other rpm. Front hubs are unlocked and transfer case is in 2H. I presume it is the transmission because thats where it "feels" like it's coming from.

Second issue . . . the "SENSOR" light on the dash is on constantly and every once in a while flashes . . . what is this telling me . . . my Chilton's manual refuses to give up any answers.

Thanks,
            ---Dave in SC CA

Sounds like you have a bearing issue with your tranny, is it noticeably noisier in 1st or 2nd gear? The Sensor light could be as simple as a switch located under the dash, find the switch and flip it the opposite direction. How many miles does your Sammi have?

I'd hazard a guess that your t-case mounts may be bent also check the jack shaft between your transmission and t-case for bad u-joints.

Good Luck, Eric

I was experiencing the same "violent shake" in my 88 Zuk in nearly every gear. I replaced the motor mounts and now it only occurs midway through second gear. We must have the same issue.

I replaced my T-case mounts with the kit from Rocky-Road.com. I am highly impressed! ALL VIBRATION ELIMINATED. After replacing the motor mounts and T-Case mounts it's like driving a completely different Zuk. My acceleration has also beenimproved (less energy put into virbating T-case/Tranny?).
The T-case mount on the drivers side was completely bent and the rubber was beginning to detach.

Anyway, just wanted to let any one else suffering from this that there is a solution and a viable one at that...see here: http://rocky-road.com/tcasemount.html (http://rocky-road.com/tcasemount.html)
