Title: Noob!
Post by: Heinz on June 01, 2009, 07:04:33 AM
Hi!  Noob here.  I live an hour or so north of Tampa.  I am here because I have always thought Samis were neat but I've never owned one.  Back in high school I had a '64 Bug I restored with the help of my folks, and after that I had an '88 Toy PU in which the previous owner had modified the 22R with Dellortos, a cam, MSD, Thorley header and straight exhaust ending in a baffled megaphone.  That thing screamed!

Within the next couple years, after our kid is in school and my wife's Highlander is paid for, I'd really like to see a Samurai in the driveway.  I've seen cherry, low-mile examples sell for less than five grand---cheap thrills!  So I'll be lurking around here (cool site, BTW!) doing my due diligence (research) towards that end.

The ideal thing would be finding one either completely unmolested, or maybe a little rodded if it was done right.  Patience is the key, right?  I'm not looking to do any real off-roading, this is more of a beach cruiser and weekend driver around town.  Most mods I'd do at first would be the exhaust (gotta have that rasp) and maybe wheels and tires.

So...that's me.  I'm open to any input as to what to look for (or watch OUT for), and the like.  And when the day finally arrives when I snag a Sami, of course I'll be posting pics!

If you're going for looks only - paint & tires are all you really need. If you want a little more DD friendly ride, stick with 29" or smaller tires. A 1.6L swap is nice and cheap these days.
