Title: What is the name of the bar below the rear bumper on a sidekick or tracker. 1996
Post by: IrishMike on June 02, 2009, 11:44:19 AM
What is the bar called underneath the rear bumper in this photo.

Its the rusty bar underneath the bumper. Is there a way to remove this bar?

Thanks!
Mike

I believe it is there to 'protect' the gas tank in case of a rear collision. It can be removed by two bolts on each end holding it to the frame.

Hope your not planning to leave it off. That's the only thing between you and a flameing Pinto-style rear-ended  BBQ. Rest of the rig looks great, just repaint it and put back on.

Mine was completly rusted off, only spot on the frame that was gone.

I cut my whole rear frame off and made it out of 1/8'' steel and 2x2 box tubing though

Yeah, that is what I did with mine.  Reese used to make a bolt-on hitch that replaced that bar.

Mine was bent in the middle. I cut about 3 inches out of the middle of it and welded in a 2 inch reciever hitch that I cut off of the back of a wrecked heeps's reciever. ;)
