Title: Hood Fitment Question???
Post by: efalk on June 14, 2009, 07:50:45 AM
Hello.

This weekend I managed to damage my hood on a trail.   I found a hood on line, same color but its about an hour away from me.   My question is I have a 97 2door sidekick and the hood is from a 92 sidekick.   I know that they are different hoods but does anyone know if I can make the 92 hood work with out too much modification?

Thank you.

There shouldn't be any difference in hoods between a 92 and 97 sidekick.

They do look different, but they bolt up and latch. The older Tracker hoods don't have the
"suzuki hump" like the Suzuki badged, and 96+ Trackers.

Ive used a 91 2 door hood on my 97 4 doors no probs, they bolt up the same, just dont have the raised center section.

when you re-bolt on any hood you should drop it down very slowly to try to fit it. I changed one last summer and slammed it shut. Well it wasn't lined up and when we tried to re-open it there was no way that it wasn't going to cause some body damage and break some plastic piece close to the glass.

I tried to get my hands in there to loosen some bolts but there was no chance of that. I ended up cutting the hood to get it off and having to find another hood. Don't do like me....take you time, I just rushed and like normal it cost me some money. Just another stupid thing to add to my list.

I thought so too, so I looked it up - and the part numbers were different, I can't tell you what the differences are, but they are different.

When I whacked a deer with my '96 Tracker, the only hood I could find was a flat hood from a '92 or '93.  It bolted right on, and the latch lined up perfectly (once I pulled the front end out straight.  The only problem I had was that the washer nozzles spray the under edge of the hood and had to be bent a little to work properly.

The "hump" and "no hump" hoods will have different part numbers, even though they are totally interchangable.

I never said they weren't interchangeable - just that they were different.

So to speak - there is a difference between "shouldn't be any difference" and "interchangeable"  :P

I guess I should have said...."there shouldn't be any difference in fitament of the hoods between a 92 and 97 sidekick".  Seeing as how the original poster was just wondering if the 97 hood would fit and didn't care if it looked different, then my answer should have been pretty clear.

Everyone else seemed to know what I meant, except for you.   :P

So jzap is the one that took out Bambi's mom.

No, It was Bambi's DAD...  ...8 pointer at 50MPH.  Had to wait for daylight, but drove Tracker home...
