Title: Lost in the Piney's Tour
Post by: bentparts on June 16, 2009, 08:33:32 AM
A few photos from our First Annual Lost In the Pinelands 2 day Tour. Fun was had by all, well almost. It wasn't without some carnage. Some of the new to the Pinelands guys did manage to get sucked into the famous unsuspecting mudholes. " But It didn't look that deep!"  Bob managed to roll his Sammi on one of only 2 real hills in the Pines. A freak twist of the front wheel set him careening into a tree, both driver and passenger walked away, with a few bumps and bruises. It took two rigs with winches to pull it off the tree and upright it. He did drive it out of the woods, without brakes! His fluid all leaked out when the MC cap fell off in the roll. What a champ! All in all, we covered about 60 miles of trails in 2 days, and had a blast. Btw, no photos of the Turbo Tracker, it just doesn't look that exciting when it pretty much just walks through everything!

Well, you could of walked it through that water hole and made some exciting photos!  But I am glad you didn't!!
Good to hear it was a good time and everyone will recover!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wharton_State_Forest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wharton_State_Forest)

The Wharton State Forest, in southern New Jersey.  Over 500 miles of unpaved roads, and 115,000 acres of forest to explore.  Lots of great camping areas.  The Batsto village is a cool place to see.

Almost every kind of wheeling you can imagine out there.  Everything but rocks...and I hate rocks, so I loved it out there.   There's really deep, soft sand.....hard packed clay.....MUD!.....hill climbs....fast, tight, twisty, technical trails......

My nearly stock Tracker did really well out there.  I'm proud of it.   The pineys gave me some inspiration to get back to work on it.

I'm uploading about 90 images and a few short videos to my photobucket right now.....so hang in there...you guys will still get to see the TurboTracker at it's finest.   ;)

Here's some cool pix!

Lots of poser shots when we stopped to take a break.

I'll post links to the videos I have first.  I think they're in MPEG-4 format.  I hope they work for you all.

This first one is a random one I took while driving.

Here's SNJSammy in his Suzuki boat.

One of Bob aka SNJSammy being denied on a sweet hill climb.

Here's Bob tackling the hill climb.
http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d51/hornetking/Offroad%20Adventures/?action=view&current=VIDEO0005.flv (http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d51/hornetking/Offroad%20Adventures/?action=view&current=VIDEO0005.flv)

And Bob rolling his poor Samurai at the top of another hill.  It was a lot more gnarly than it looks in the vid.  The top is all washed out, and it grabbed his tire and just took him for a ride.

;) Hey LilRed, I was, uhhh, trying not to show off, yeah that's it! No, really, been there, done that. I'll save my swimming for a nice clean lake. Although, you do notice I have a snorkle? It's not just for looks, These mudholes will eat a Tracker!

Great photo's and Video Tony! It ws a blast! Does you carpet stink yet?

Haha, thanks Mike.  And uh....it's starting to smell like a wet carpet in there.  I just bought some crap and washed the outside today.   The weather is pretty lousy....but as soon as there's some sun, I'm going out to clean the interior and rip that carpet out.

forgot to tell them. i drove home with no windshield. i still have wind burn lol. It def was a great weekend even though sammi had to roll down the hill. I had fun that is all that matters. Hopefully She will be back on the road soon. Rollcage bumped up the to do list for sure.

Sunday was great too. Even though we got lost for a little bit lol

lol, we did get lost for a bit....but it was loads of fun!  Let's do it again!

It really makes me want to link the rear and swap toyota IFS in the front, and throw on some coilovers.  Man...that'd be sweeet!  Too bad I'm broke.  Bah. =/

ooo...hope your wind burn heals up Bob, hah.  I couldn't even tell you had no windshield once it got dark out.  Also couldn't see your hand signals either!  Oh well.  At least you made it home alright, and the samurai isn't in half bad shape.  Keep us updated on it's progress!

Don't forget the second winch it took to get you off that tree!  How's the repair coming? Yeah, that Jeep is afraid of anything a normal 4wd will do. But it is full of recovery gear!

Check er out!

If I can get it inspected this August, I might be up for a fall trip to the Piney's.  Who wants to be my trail guide?   8)

Looking Good Mooch! Nice to have it all one color eh?  Carpet still stink? Fall in the Pines is really nice, lets do it! This time we MUST camp!

Oh my god yeah...I love that it's finally one color...It was black/white for like a year and a half!

And I CAN'T WAIT to come out to the pineys again!!   I might be able to come out around October-ish....depends on the job situation really....which is still quite poor.

Oh, and I took the carpet out and hosed it down real good...tore out all that insulation crap and threw it away.  The carpet is actually in pretty decent shape for being almost 20 years old.

So, "Lost in The Pineys Round 2" this fall.  What's it like in october?

Fall there is freakin beautiful. What isn't an evergreen is changing color and the weather is usually really nice, cooler but not cold. Let's definitely do it. I'll be back from my trip out west about the 6th of Oct, so I should be ready soon after that.

I would have loved to have joined you guys on the run but I got a problem that keeps me from driving the zuk.

If it wasn't for this, I would have been all over that ride especially being in South Jersey.

I can't believe I missed this!!!  Where were you guys in the Pinelands?  Warton?  Forked River?

Hey Lindenmooch, do you live in Linden, NJ?  I live in Fanwood now but grew up in Linden.  If you ever saw a tan samurai on swampers driving around, that was me.

nah T-saurus, I live in eastern PA.  zip 17851.   And yea, we were in Wharton state forest, blazing down some of the coolest trails I've ever been on.  I had a lot of fun, and I'm really hoping to go again with the same guys that went the first time, plus more maybe......I'll be bringing a 2 wheel drive truck next time though.  The Tracker won't survive another trip.

Ah, oh well.  Was worth a shot.

When are you looking to go?  I'm trying to drag my neighbor out wheeling with his 4runner.  Possibly looking to hit Forked River or Warton.  I'm trying for a day on the weekend after this one (Dec 12th or 13th)  Maybe drive down and camp out the night before. we'll see.  PM me if you and anyone else is game.

Bumping this, cuz it has a vid to a roll that I just mentioned in another thread here:

http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/adventure-forum/scariest-most-puckering-moment/ (http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/adventure-forum/scariest-most-puckering-moment/)

Sorry about your rig SNJSamurai... think I read you fixed it since though?  ???

The reason I mentioned it there is because I've nearly rolled in a similar way & to help others avoid the same:

Heading into a descent with a V wash in the middle, NEVER put your downhill tire at the bottom of the V. Keep it on the near shoulder of the V & straddle the low spot, to keep the rig more level. Hope that helps someone out in the future.

In this case, he had the right front in a low spot, a relatively high rig & his COG was on the RF tire... he hit the rock or bump... & over she went.  :(
