Hi all, I have a 1991 sidekick..
I got a nice set of water, volts, oil pressure gauges and had no problem hooking up the volts and oil gauges, but I have no idea where to hook up the water probe. The factory one by the thermostat is WAY too small, Is there another location to be able to hook into to get the temp gauge working?
thanks for any info.

Sorry, I have no answer to your question, but I have a 91 also and from what I have just read you have got me really motivated to install some gauges too. Thanks man.

I think there is another opening
on the side by a Bosch style plug
which is the sender for the ECU
What size is the thermo probe for
the water temp ??? like 1/8" pipe

The kit I have comes with a lot of different size attachments, so it's not critical the size on the opening, it's just that the factory one is way too small to do anything with.

anyone come up with a good location to put the temp gauge probe? i'm tryign to figure this out too.

Sad to say - if you have the 1.3 or 1.6 engines, there really aren't any - most after market gauge sets come with a fairly large sender that threads into a 1/4" NPT fitting, which is way larger than any of the ports near the thermostat housing, which is the optimum location for it.
If you locate it elsewhere it won't give you any indication until the thermostat opens, and if the thermostat fails shut, the engine will overheat before the gauge has moved from cold.
If you have a Tracker or Grand Vitara with a 2.0 or 2.5, those have the thermostat mounted away from the head and you could theoretically fabricate an adapter that will let you mount the sender in the line between the head and the thermostat.

I drilled a hole in my intake in the water port and tapped it. for my temp sensor on my elec fan. worked good.. might work for you something like that
