Title: white smoke & the exhaust smells like gas

i turned my car on this morning, 97 sidekick sport, & the white smoke came out of the exhaust for about 5 minutes. when the smoke stopped i went outside to have a look & it smelled like straight gas then it stalled.

ideas?

it the white smoke went away it was most likely some hummidity in the exhaust system. Check your coolant level. IF it's gone down you can get a mechanic to put the tool on the rad to see if you busted the head gasket.

You say it stalled....did it restart right away or is it not starting? I'd look at the plugs to see the color but running ECU means that you can't adjust it...might be a computor problem.

Was it more like steam (little disappearing clouds), or oil (white clouds that stick around). Can you do a compression check?
