Hey guys, im having problems with the auto trans in my 90' tracker. (8 valve 2 door) It was driving and shifting perfect until I got done installing the calmini 3" body lift. I havnt drivin it around much, but it won't shift out of first gear. I did get it to shift to 2nd a few times by dropping it in L and then shifting to 2. But no third after that. In drive it only stays in 1st. Any ideas? Maybe i pinched a vacum line or something? Im sure it has to be something small, its to much of a coincidence for a perfect trans to go out right after installing a body lift. Any help is appreciated!

There's a vacume line coming off the intake manifold that runs down to the transmission. It connects to the trans vacume modulater, which controls your shifts. That's my guess to where the problen may be. My vacume line from the manifold to the trans is pretty snug, and that's with only 2" lift on the body. I'd check there first.

x2 on vacuum line. It's possible that the shifting linkage needs adjustment. Are you having problems getting into any other gears (N, R, P), or is it just a problem shifting between 1,2 & 3?

Great. So today I think I found the vacuum line. It was unhooked. Re-connected it with hopes of finally completing this project. Wrong. Pulled out of the driveway and started to lay on the gas. Engine dies. Pulled over and tried to crank it. Motor turned over quite a bit faster than normal. Sure enough it ate the timing belt...I've been searching and can't find an answer to my question....are tracker motors (8v) interference motors? Does anyone know if it could have internal damage? I want to find out if it's worth putting another belt on it. Sad thing is im not even sure if the transmission is good. All this after dumping a grand into it woth of wheels/tires/lift! :(

Toss in a belt, make sure the timing all lines up. Consider changing the front seal & water pump while you're in there...
...of course, the above is only true if you've done a compression check recently, and know the engine's not too tires / on it's last leg. I think I got my compression check for $20, and it's one of my favorite new tools.
