The FSM for a 97 says 75W-90 synthetic.
I used plain dyno oil. I changed it before I got the manual. ;D

mine is a 94 think it will make a diffrence. i have one of them oil pumps to take out the oil how much and how would you recomend puting it back in?
-
I use Castrol gear oil...I forget which weight...
Nice rims, those are from a newer Tracker aren't they?
-
75w-90 is what the sammies call for to.
Refill till the gear lube runs back out the fill hole.
Good lookin Kick, glad you decided to quit lurking and Share! ;D

What ever you do run synthetic I have heard it reduces friction more. Not sure it will make a noticable difference but it damn sure can't hurt to try.

yep they came with it, i only payed 1500 and it has a brand new engine all it needs now is rear shocks, i heard use the crown vic shocks. What year? also how hard is it to intall a new clutch and lockers?
thanks

the oil need in the tcase on a 1995 geo tracker is 80-90. depending the year it may very, i don't know. Just check it out in your owners manuel. Be sure to put the right stuff in, i'd go with dealer specs. hope it helps pierre

First of all, Welcome!
Second, I hate to throw an odd opinion (seems like I have a lot of them ::) ), but I thought I read somewhere that you should use crude in the tcase and diffs and synthetic in the auto trans (not sure about your manual).
I'm a fan of synthetic though so if I ever decide to spend the bucks, I may switch from the crude that's in there now to a synthetic in everything.
The only suggestion I'd make is to be sure you can remove the fill plugs before you remove the drain plugs. I guess that's a no-brainer, but guess who drained the rear diff first and then found out he couldn't get the fill plug out (yup, me again :-[ ). Let me tell you filling the diff through the drain hole was a major PITB.

the Tracker take synthetic GL4 and the sidekick take dyno GL4.  i have syn GL4 in my Transfer case. ;D

Crown Vic shocks are for use with 3"
rear spring spacers or 3" lifted springs
but they should be fine if you got 2"
lifted rears

Next time pull the transfer lever and fill from there its much easier. That trick doesnt work with the trannie though.

I just replace my tranny and the guys at Hawk said to us synthetic, so I did. It was 12 bucks at autozone for the 2.7 pints.
