Title: Tie Rod
Post by: jbrown on August 06, 2009, 09:47:32 AM
I'm about to undertake rebuilding the front end of my 88.5 tin top. (Bare with my description here I can't find appropriate names for this) The tie rod has two tie rod ends and then about 2-3 inches off the passenger side where the drag link hooks up there is a "coupler". Is this portion rebuildable? There is a lot of play in this joint and I think it's causing a vibration when driving. Any input would be great.

I don't recall offhand if the draglink has a permanent joint on it but I bet it does NOT. That would be the component that would cause "looseness" rather than the hole in the tierod being wallowed out.

If the draglink DOES have a permanently attached joint then you have to replace the draglink.

Oddly enough Samurai parts are not too hard to find at your typical auto parts store.  You just have to be smarter than the guy behind the counter...   I bet that you can also get those posts through Hawks Strictly Suzuki  888-SAMURAI

I hope that this helps!

Thanks for the info. I've already had a time getting the correct parts. The store wants to tell me that it only takes one or two when it takes three or four.
